happy new year

Dear Christ Church,

May I wish you a very Happy and Blessed New Year!

Can I encourage you to bring this New Year to God in times of corporate worship and prayer? Do join us, if you can, this Sunday at 10.30am where we will be sharing in Holy Communion and beginning a new sermon series. It’s called ‘Missing: Finding our way to a God who is looking for us.’ I’m looking forward to preaching the first sermon in this series on Sunday and I hope you can share it with me.

Although there are not children’s activities this Sunday, we have made a point of making the sung worship accessible to all ages. In addition, I have prepared a word search and colouring picture for the children (and adults! :-) who may want to do that during my sermon. So, do make it a family occasion!

Secondly, I’d love to encourage you in personal Bible study and prayer this New Year.

If you have a smart phone, there are two apps which you might want to consider:

Holy Trinity Brompton (an Anglican Church and the home of the Alpha course) have produced a Bible Study app called Bible in One Year. I used it last year and found it most helpful. I’m going to do so again this year.

You can find it in your app stores for Android or iTunes.

For daily prayer, if you find structured prayer helpful, I would recommend the Anglican Daily Prayer app. It has all the canticles (set prayers) readings and psalms all included in each page. When you open the app, it knows which day it is and sets you up accordingly. Handy!

Thirdly, we have prepared a new prayer diary for Christ Church this year. With it, we can pray for all the individuals and families in our church over a monthly cycle. It is a great thing to do, and Rev’d Dozie and I use it in our morning prayers to pray for you all. We will be giving these out on Sunday, so if you can’t be there this Sunday, be sure to pick one up from the info table!

DO make it you New Year’s Resolution to be an ‘above and beyond’ Christian! (To worship Christ above all things, and to go beyond your four walls in mission!)

In His service,
