There is much happening in May:
Thy Kingdom Come
The Archbishops are calling for a week of prayer prior to Pentecost Sunday. Christ Church will be open to all who wish to prayer from Monday 9th – Saturday 14th May, from 9am to 9pm. There will be a version of the Lord’s Prayer to help you pray for yourself, your family, your community and the world.
We have also ordered some prayer cards and leather bands to help you pray for 5 friends or family members. We had hoped to have these available for you to collect from church this Sunday but due to high demand they won’t arrive until next week. The idea is to take the piece of leather and tie five knots in it to represent the five people you would like to pray for. You could carry the knotted band in your pocket, tie it round your wrist or place it somewhere that you’ll see it regularly. Use the knots to remind you to pray for each person on your list. There are some suggested prayers at:
In addition, we are thinking of hosting a screening of the service of prayer and worship, led by Bishop Justin, being held at Canterbury Cathedral on 15th May which is being live-streamed over the internet – if this happens it will replace the 6.30pm service – we will update you next week.
Open Garden at Bishopscourt
This is the home of the Bishop of Rochester at 24 St Margaret’s Street, Rochester and is open on Saturday 14th May from 11am – 3pm in aid of Christian Aid. Teas, home-made cakes and plants will be on sale. There is wheelchair access and dogs are welcome on leads.
Christian Aid Week, 15th – 21st May
Volunteers are urgently needed to deliver and collect Christian Aid envelopes during the above dates.
“Having been a collector myself for many years, it involves choosing a road from the road list and delivering envelopes to those houses at the beginning of the week and returning to collect them by the end of the week (21st May). This normally takes a couple of hours of my time in total to deliver and collect (approx. 90 houses)” writes Karen Smith, who co-ordinates this ministry at Christ Church.
If you would like to be involved or sign up for a road (approx. 40 houses), please give Karen a call on 01689 820872 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, the ‘road list’ is on the notice board in the café area.
